    The Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass is an attractive pass for travelers exploring the Hokuriku Area. Covering travel from Kansai Airport up to Kanazawa, Shirakawago, Takayama, Gero Onsen and Nagoya.

    What's included?

    • Non-reserved seats of ordinary cars of JR trains (both local and limited express) within the validity area. Including the Thunderbird and Hida Wide View express trains.
    • Non-reserved seats of ordinary cars of the Hokuriku Shinkansen between Toyama - Kanazawa station
    • Nohi Bus/Toyama Chiho Railway/Hokutetsu Bus: Shirakawago/Kanazawa line and Takayama/Toyama line between Takayama Nohi Bus Center – Shirakawago – Kanazawa (with some exceptions; reservations required)
    • Kaetsuno Bus: World Heritage Bus between Shirakawa-go - Shin-Takaoka station.

    Limitations and things to keep in mind

    • The Tokaido Shinkansen between Nagoya - Kyoto/Osaka is not included. A normal (full fare) ticket is required for travel on the Tokaido Shinkansen.
    • Seat reservations are not included, allow for ample time at the station platform to queue up for a seat.
    • Trains and busses on this route are especially busy during weekends. We suggest traveling during week days where possible.

    The JR Takayama-Hokuriku Area Pass can only be used by visitors entering Japan using a “Temporary Visitor Visa"

    The pass follows a set route that stops at Kansai - Kanazawa - Shirakawago - Takayama and Nagoya. To get the best out of the pass, we suggest a stop at each of these locations.

    A stop over at Gero-Onsen (between Takayama and Nagoya) can easily be added to enjoy a traditional Ryokan stay together with an Onsen.

    There’s a small hole-in-the-wall burger joint in Takayama called Center4 Hamburgers that serves locally sourced Hida Beef burgers. This place has some of the best beef in Japan.

    Conditions of use

    • The pass cannot be used at an automatic ticket gate, please show your pass at a manned gate when entering and exiting the train platform area.
    • The pass can be refunded at any station where the pass can be exchanged in Japan, a 10% processing fee applies. Our general refund policy applies for refunds outside of Japan.
    • No refunds or re-issue is possible for a stolen, lost or damaged rail pass.
    • Pass users must carry their passport with them and show their passport upon request by JR Staff.
    • No compensation is given in the case of cancelled or delayed trains for whatever reason.
    • The pass is counted in days from midnight to midnight (as opposite to periods of 24 hours), the first day of use is counted as a full day, no matter what time you start using it.
