I'm based in Yokosuka and would like to see the quieter side of the Japanese countryside. Do you have any recommendations where to go? I'm looking for day trips, maybe 3 hours away or so.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forum!

Yokosuka is already located on a small peninsula worth exploring. You could head down and explore the Muira peninsula, it's a beautiful drive along the coast with good views and then go even further down to Jogashima island.

Going a bit further afield, I highly recommend Shimoda, which is an amazing get-away from Tokyo, Yokohama and Yokosuka in that extent.

Yet another option is to take the ferry across Tokyo bay and go visit Nokogiri-yama, also a highly recommended visit.

Finally, I can recommend a visit to Hakone, it's a really nice 1-2 day(s) trip, especially when booked together with a good Ryokan.

Kind regards,
Daniel
