Hi,
we are a family of four. Our kids are 3 and 6 years old. We will be visiting and exploring japan for 24 days.
We will roughly be spending time in Tokyo, Go To DisneySea, Nikko, Gunma (kiryu and Maebashi, where I used to live to show to my family :), then head to osaka, kyoto, nara, hiroshima and miyajima, then back to tokyo.

Any advice if the JR pass is recommended or get tickets as we go? or there are other passes we'd better use?

Also any advice about child friendly places? we are planning to take them to Ueno zoo, Hello Kitty land, Odaiba.

Hi there,

The best pass depends on how many days you spend in each city. I think looking at a 14 or 21 day JR Pass is a good start. Use the JR Pass to travel between cities on the Shinkansen lines to make the best use of your pass, think of travel to Nikko, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima and back to Tokyo.

Thank you so much Daniel!!! yes, we are considering the 21 day Pass. wondering if it is possible to use it on the way to Kiryu (Gunma)?
Another question if you don't mind: we also want to visit Fuji and the three lakes. Is it possible to head back from Hiroshima to Fuji area or better to go from Tokyo? is it better to do a one day trip or stay a couple of days at Hakone or Kawaguchiko?
One last request: do you think we need a regional pass once in Kyoto and Hiroshima or the JR pass would do?
