My friend and I are traveling to Japan and our departure date is March 28. It is coming quite soon and we were hoping to buy our JR Passes as soon as possible. Just a bit confused about the exchange order or vouchers.
When we place our orders, do we receive a JR Pass in the mail that we must exchange at a JR Station for the actual pass in order for it to be valid?
Or
Do we receive the actual JR Pass in the mail, ready to be used once we arrive in Japan?

We will send you an exchange order, you can turn is into the actual pass in Japan. At one of the following stations: https://www.jrpass.com/blogs/where-to-exchange-the-japan-rail-pass
You can start using it right away in Japan if you want to.
