Do I need to obtain the Japan Rail Pass?

Can you tell me if, based on my itinerary, I should obtain a Japan Rail pass? We (2 persons) fly into KIX and will go to our hotel in the the Kiyomizu area (Kyoto). We will spend 4 days sightseeing in Kyoto and maybe take 1 day-trip to Nara.
Then we will go from Kyoto to Kinosaki--stay there for 3 days, and then take the train from Kinosaki to Osaka airport for our departure.

Thanks for your help and insights.

Hi there,

The (national) JR Pass is valid for this route but would not be cost effecient. Instead I recommend using a Kansai area WIDE Pass. It offers great value for going to Kinosaki-Onsen and to Kansai Airport.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
