Hi Jason,

I had a quick look at what ticket prices would cost on this route and a 14 day JR Pass would not be cost effecient. However, you can still look at using a 7 day JR Pass if you can cover travel to Kyoto, Tokyo and back to Narita airport with it. Going to Kyoto with the Shinkansen is what would cost most and where a JR Pass would thus work the best :)

We will be traveling from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko to Kyoto and back to Tokyo then, Narita all within Aug 25-31st.
Would it be best to get a 7 day JR Pass to cover that portion of our trip?

Yes, but please note that some additional fare is needed to Kawaguchiko.
