Hi!

I will be in Japan for 10days in January. What JR pass/passes do you recommend for this itinerary?

01/24 - PM arrival in Fukuoka
01/25 - Travel to Hiroshima, sleep in Fukuoka
01/26 - Tour Fukuoka then 2 options: 1) Fukuoka-Osaka, or 2) Fukuoka to Tokyo
01/27 - 02/01 - Tour Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka, sleep in Tokyo (near Kawaguchi station)
02/02 - Travel to Nagoya from Tokyo

Was initially thinking of purchasing the 14day pass. But is there a cheaper alternative--like a 3/4-day pass for Fukuoka-Hiroshima-Osaka area, then we purchase the 7-day JR Pass?

Hi there,

I think just a 14 day JR Pass is the best option. I don't think that a mix of two passes would give you a much better rate and most JR West passes, like Hiroshima-Osaka area pass do not include seat reservations. This is one of the best features of the JR Pass.

Area passes will also have limitations where you can go, while the JR Pass will take you anywhere.

Would you recommend that we get the Nimoca/Suica/Pasmo/ card for local trains and buses?
And, not sure if its within your scope, but if I get the Nimoca from Fukuoka, I will be able to use this in Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo as well?

Also an additional question: Where can I view the schedule of trains? Specifically schedule of trips from Fukuoka to Tokyo/Kawaguchi. Thanks!
