Hi,

I am planning a family trip in December for 14 days and having a hard time to decide how best to utilize a JR Pass or is it even worth purchasing.

I am flexible in the rearrangement of the itinerary if you have a better plan.

Rough idea as such:

Day 1 - 5 : Kansai Airport to Osaka
- going to Universal Studio, within Osaka and day trips to Kobe and Nara

Day 6-8 : Osaka to Kyoto

Day 9 - 11 : Kyoto to Mt Fuji (Fujiten Resort)

Day 12- 14: Back to Osaka and depart at Kansai

My main concern is the 7 day Pass is not able to cover the whole round trip.

Is there a better plan? I do not mind skipping some areas or adding in other areas.

Main interest would be USJ, Osaka City, Kyoto and a snow resort.

Thank you in advance.

Hi there,

Most travel within the Kansai Area (Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Kansai Airport) won't cost a lot and you'd be fine here buying normal tickets, or you can look at using a Kansai Area Pass.

Then for the Fuji resort, you could use a 7 day JR Pass here but I could not find out the exact fare to the resort. So be sure to check if it would help you make savings. A JR Pass would definitely be helpful if you visited Tokyo, think of Disneyland?
