Haneda to Tokyo (14/08)
Tokyo to Mount Fuji area (18/08)
Mount Fuji to Kyoto (20/08)
Kyoto to Osaka (22/08)
Osaka back to Tokyo (for Disney) (24/08)
Tokyo to Narita (27/08)

Is JR Pass worth it? Is this a realistic itinerary over two weeks?

Hi there,

I see you also contacted us by e-mail, posts on our forum only show up once approved my a moderator. This is necessary to avoid SPAM. That out of the way, let's have a look at your itinerary :)

I do think you can consider using a 7-day JR Pass. The cost of a rail pass is similar to a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka using the Shinkansen. Now you get 7-days of unlimited travel for the same price.

For Mt. Fuji, it may be hard to travel to Kyoto but it will depend on where you visit, for details see:

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thank you so much. I'd tried it numerous times before but I think it may have been because I was trying to connect with Facebook and I didn't confirm my account.

We have booked this hotel for Mt Fuji area:

HOTEL MYSTAYS Fuji Onsen Resort, Arakura 2654, Fujiyoshida Yamanashi 403-0011.

Will this area be difficult to get to Kyoto as you suggest? Are there any other areas easier to get to from where we have booked for Mt Fuji? We have already paid for hotels in Tokyo and Mt Fuji so the other items on our itinerary can change... although we really would like to visit Osaka and Kyoto if possible!

Finally, I assume we will need the 14 day pass if we are travelling to and from Tokyo airports as well as other journeys?

Thank you for your advice and your help!

Hi again :)

I looked up HOTEL MYSTAYS Fuji Onsen Resort and it is not the easiest of trips from there to Kyoto. Given that you already booked your hotels, the best you can do is just buckle up and prepare for a decent long trip. Don't imagine it as horrible, it is just rather inconvenient. That decided, the best you can do is work out a time table that works best for you and prepare/plan in advance.

In terms of value, I do think that the 7-day JR Pass is the better option. Even with travel to airports in mind. Don't forget to exchange the JR Pass 1-2 days in advance before going to Fuji, as you can't do so there. You can select a starting date when exchanging the pass and don't have to do so right away.

Hope this helps :)
Daniel
