When should i activate my JR Pass?

Hi there,

Looking at your itinerary, to make it makes most sense to use a 7-day JR Pass from March 3rd to March 9th. You can make the best savings on the route Tokyo - Kyoto and back using the Shinkansen bullet trains.

For an Onsen, there are different good options near Kyoto. Most Ryokan will have their own but private onsen but you could also head to Kurama Onsen in the north of Kyoto, one of my personal favorites.

I realised I wasn't very specific in my previous post.

I will land in haneda Tokyo airport, then head directly to Osaka for 4 nights, then to Kyoto for 2 nights, to nara deer park for a day trip, then lastly to Tokyo for 4 nights, lastly will fly back from narita airport.

Is it still recommended that I activate the Jr pass on the 3rd March? If yes, it means I should buy 1 way ticket to Osaka?
