When should i activate my JR Pass?

Hi, I am having a 11Days 10Nights trip to Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, my itinerary is planned like this,

27 Feb - 3 march (4 nights)
land early in the morning in Haneda Airport Tokyo.
head straight to Osaka for 4nights stay

3 March - 5 March (2 nights)
set off to Kyoto for 2 nights stay.

5 to 9 March (4 nights)
set off to Tokyo
go to Nara Park
also I would like to visit a private onsen if I can rent them for an hr or 2. Any recommendations around Tokyo or slightly further would be nice.

Hi there,

Looking at your itinerary, to make it makes most sense to use a 7-day JR Pass from March 3rd to March 9th. You can make the best savings on the route Tokyo - Kyoto and back using the Shinkansen bullet trains.

For an Onsen, there are different good options near Kyoto. Most Ryokan will have their own but private onsen but you could also head to Kurama Onsen in the north of Kyoto, one of my personal favorites.

Thank you Daniel,

I realised I wasn't very specific in my previous post.

I will land in haneda Tokyo airport, then head directly to Osaka for 4 nights, then to Kyoto for 2 nights, to nara deer park for a day trip, then lastly to Tokyo for 4 nights, lastly will fly back from narita airport.

Is it still recommended that I activate the Jr pass on the 3rd March? If yes, it means I should buy 1 way ticket to Osaka?

Thank you for the onsen recommendations too, I'll take a good look at them!
