Whats the best JR pass to buy for travel?

Hello,

I'm planning to travel to Tokyo next year in late September to Mid October. Not sure which is the best pass to get.

Planning to travel with Tokyo area for the 1st 4-5 days (such as Kanagawa, Yokohama, Shinjuku, Shibuya areas) what would be best the IC Card to purchase to travel 2-3 times per day for a week?

After a week want to travel to Osaka, than to Akita, than back to Tokyo. What pass would be best to save on money?

Any tips and suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Vanessa,

A JR Pass best used for longer trips. Think of going to Osaka and Akita. Depending on how many days you spend in each city - I would either use a 7 day or 14 day JR Pass. Both would help you make savings on this route.

IC cards can be used interchangeably and it does not really matter which one you get.
