Hello and thank you for your time. I have a question. I will be traveling to Japan visiting the 3 cities above in late December. I purchased the JR pass to get from city to city. One thing I'm not clear on is, can I use the JR pass to travel around each of the city I will be in or do I have to purchase the local regional pass? I will be in each city for 3 days and would like to use the train system to visit different sites within that city.

I appreciate your guidance.

Thank you.

Hi there,

The JR Pass covers local JR lines in cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. The local network is quite extensive in both Tokyo and Osaka, such as the JR Yamanote loop line in Tokyo and JR Osaka loop line.

In Kyoto JR lines run to the south and west of the city but other transport is needed for the north and east.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
