Hi, we are traveling end of March for 15 days. First 5 in Tokyo, then 2 in Takayama, 5 in Kyoto and last 2 in Osaka. I’m thinking we only need 8 days of train passes, since we wouldn’t activate it until our train ride to Takayama. Is it possible to purchase an extra day pass so I don’t have to buy the 14day pass?

Hi there,
The JR Pass can't be extended, generally I recommend looking at what trips would cost the most and then use the JR Pass to cover those. Then buy local tickets for the days outside of the validity period.
Kind regards,
Daniel
