My family will be visiting Japan for approximate 18days this fall. NRT-Tokyo-Nikko-Karuizawa-Furakawa-Kanazawa-Kyoto-Tokyo-NRT Would your recommend the JRpass? And will this pass allow me to ride the N’EX train? Once I purchase the JRpass(Green) voucher, How soon do I receive the voucher? How soon can I begin to reserve seating? Or are seats reserved on the date of travel? Thank you for your assistance.

Some of these seats can be reserved through Eki-Net, for details please see:https://www.jrpass.com/blog/using-ekinet-to-make-online-seat-reservations-with-the-japan-rail-pass
Routes outside of Ekinet can be reserved in person, at any JR Station. See:
