Hi there,

I am researching about the JR Pass and it is mentioned that I can take the Hayabusa Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori. However, I also read that this requires a reservation and that if I want to take this option, I would need to collect my ticket a day before I make this trip.

I would not be able to do that as I would be in Kyoto before that.

I would like to ask:
1. If I am taking the Hayabusa Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori, would I need to reserve my seat
2. If reserve seating is necessary, does that mean I will not be able to take the Hayabusa Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori and will instead need to take the Komachi Shinkansen?

Thank you
Dion

Hi Dion,

1.) Yes, the Hayabusa Shinkansen is reserved seats only. As long as seats are available however, you can reserve a seat up to 5min before departure.

2.) The Komachi Shinkansen is full reserved as well, so just get a reservation. They are free with the JR Pass.

Kind regards,
Daniel
