Hi, my wife and I will be traveling from Narita to Tokyo (Shinjuku) to Kyoto to Nagoya to Yokohama. I would like to also take the bullet train when traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto to save time if it doesn't cost too much more. Our flight arrives in Narita March 1 and leaves March 9th.
Do you think it will be cost effective for me to get a rail pass?

Yes, a 7 day JR Pass would be cost effective if you can cover at least Tokyo - Kyoto - Nagoya - Yokohama with it. Of course anything extra just ads to that. Such as local travel within cities on JR lines or travel to/from the airport.
