Hi,
Im looking for some advice on my JR Pass purchase... want to be sure it makes sense to get and if we should spend the extra money and get the first class/green pass? Also I don't understand how to make the reservations in advance?
And does each pass user need to be present in person to activate passes, or can one family member do it for everyone?
Our Itinerary (4 adults):
day 1: Haneda to Tokyo
day 2: exploring tokyo ( use on metro?)
day 3: go to Matsumoto ( use to get there.)
day 4: go to Takayama ( can I use there?)
day 5: travel around Takayama
day 6: Takayama to Kyoto (use on that train?)
day 7: Explore Kyoto
day 8: travel to Hiroshima (day trip)
day 9: explore Kyoto
day 10: daytrip to Osaka or Nara.TBD
day 11: kyoto to tokyo
day 12: explore tokyo
day 13: tokyo to Haneda airport

Thank you for any advice!

Hi there,

With plenty of long dispatch travel, I would recommend using a 14-day JR Pass for your trip. Green Class is a nice upgrade if you don't have to worry about your travel budget.

For finding routes and timings, I recommend using Navitime:
https://japantravel.navitime.com/en/area/jp/route/

Seat reservations can be made at any JR station or ticket machine in Japan. For activating the pass, one person can do it, but you do need to bring everyones passport.

Kind regards,
Daniel
