Hi Daniel san, we are excited and look forward to heading to Osaka followed by Takayama, Kyoto and then back to Osaka in March 2023.
Can you share what kind of tickets should we buy when we move around to save cost ? Our trip is 15 days.
Is the train ride to Takayama comfortable? Is there any toilets & can we eat on the train ride of about 5 hours.

I looked at different options, but could not find a ticket specifically for the route Osaka - Takayama - Kyoto/Osaka that would help you make savings. The cost of a one way ticket is around 8.000yen using JR, or double for the return.
The train ride itself is comfortable and one of the most scenic rides in Japan, specifically the route between Nagoya and Takayama going through the Japanese Alps. You can bring food and drink on board, no problem! In Japan, it is customary to buy a station bento box and enjoy the meal on the train.
