Hi, can you advise us if we should use JR pass and/or Suica card?
Our trip will be in November 2023, from HND Airport to Kyoto, stay 4 days.
After Kyoto, we will travel down to Tokyo for another 5 days.

I see most of your advise is to use 7 day JR pass. As we will be in Japan for 9 days, I'm wondering if it is more cost efficient to purchase single trip from HND to Kyoto and Kyoto to Tokyo; and buy Suica card/Tokyo subway ticket unlimited rides whilst travelling within Tokyo/Kyoto.

If 7 day JR pass is still the best choice, should we activate it on the 1st day of arrival or the 3rd day since there are 2 days not covered?

I downloaded an app "Tokyo Metro". Can JR pass used for all these stations? Perhaps you can suggest which similar app is good for navigating in Tokyo and Kyoto that are covered under JR pass. Thanks

Hi there,

Under the current pricing, we recommend a 7-day JR Pass if you include at least a return trip Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. The cost of the pass is similar to the cost of a return ticket, with the pass you get 7-day of unlimited travel for the same price! So use the pass on the pass that you travel the most!

The JR Pass is not valid on the Tokyo Metro, but does cover the local JR Network in Tokyo. See www.jrpass.com/map

Kind regards,
Daniel
