HI Daniel

We want to use the JR pass from Kanazawa to Ouzu and on to Naoetsu and Nagana. Your map on this site shows we can use it but on another map I've seen online it shows this as a private line subject to buying a ticket. Is your map correct and we can travel at no extra cost with the JR Pass? Please enlighten us.

Thanks,
Timmo

Hello Timmo,

There is an extra fare between Naoetsu and Arai stations, this is 530yen when traveling on the Shirayuki train.

I did not find any stations by the name Ouzu and Nagana, would you mean Nagano and something else?

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Confusing you again - it is Kanazawa to Uozu and on to Nagano using the JR Pass?

Thanks

Hi Timmo,

The local line running past Uozu is run by the chitetsu.co.jp railway and not included in the JR Pass. You can use the Hokuriku Shinkansen between Kanazawa and Nagano.

I hope this answers your question, if not please let me know the route you are traveling like start at station x -> stop at x - travel on to x etc.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel-san

Thanks for keeping with me.

Start Kyoto -> Kanazawa (1 night) -> Uozu (1 night) -> Nagano (3 nights) -> Fujinomiya (1 night) -> Ise (2 nights) -> Osaka

Need to know how many of these place require private travel and how much that will cost.

Thanks again.

Hi Timmo,

Sorry for the delay in response, I had not forgotten it but had to find a moment to sit down and research.

Going into your route.

Kyoto - > Kanazawa: Fully covered by the JR Pass, you can use the Thunderbird express for the fastest route.

Kanazawa - Uozu: Take the TSURUGI Shinkansen from Kanazawa to Toyama and from there the Ainokaze Toyama Railway to Uozo. This last part requires ¥560 fare.

Uozu - Nagano: take the Ainokaze Toyama Railway back to Toyama (again 560yen) and then the Shinkansen to Nagano.
Nagano - Fujinomiya: Fully covered by the JR Pass. Take the Shinkansen to Tokyo, then a combination of the Tokaido Shinkansen and local JR lines to Fujinomiya.

Fujinomiya - Ise: fully covered but be sure to use JR lines between Nagoya - Ise and not the Kintetsu lines.

Ise - Osaka: Take local JR lines back to Nagoya station and from there the Shinkansen to Osaka.

As you can see the only addition fare is to and from Uozu.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
