My wife and I will be in Japan for 30 days in October - Tokyo (21 days), Nagano (3 days), Shizuoka (2 days), Hamamatsu (3 days) and Osaka (5 days) in that order.

Is there a 30-day JR pass? If none, what do you suggest on how we manage this?

Does the JR pass get us from Tokyo to Nagano, Nagano to Shizuoka, Shizuoka to Hamamatsu and then Hamamatsu to Osaka? Is the same JR pass usable in all those 5 places.

Thanks a lot,

Rey

Hi Rey,

Local travel around Tokyo does not cost much by itself and generally speaking it is cheaper to buy normal tickets there than using a JR Pass. Where you get the best use out of the JR Pass, is for intercity travel for instance to Nagano, Kyoto and so on using the Shinkansen. AS such. you could look at using either a 7 day or 14 day JR Pass.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Kind regards,
Daniel
