I am arriving in Haneda Airport on 20th Oct and need to travel to Narita airport to meet my travel companion who is arriving there on the same day. Is it possible to travel directly between the two airports using a JPR? We will both then be exploring Tokyo for a few days before heading to Kyoto for further exploring, then moving on to Koyasan and then on to Kii Tanabe to do the Kumano Kodo trail. Can the JPR be used for travel to and between these destinations?

Also, at the end of our walk we will need to travel from KiiKatsuura to Kyoto where we hope to visit Hiroshima on a day trip and perhaps other side trips using Kyoto as our base again. Eventually moving onto Osaka where we will be departing the country.

Would two separate JPR passes be the most efficient, simple and cost effective way to travel? Any or all suggestions gratefully received!!!!

Hi there,

You can travel between Haneda and Narita Airport using the Japan Rail Pass: the route is as follows. Take the Tokyo Monorail and JR Yamanote line from Haneda to Tokyo station, then use the Narita Express to Narita Airport.

The JR Pass can be used to travel down to Kyoto but not all the way to Koyasan and the Kumano Kodo, here some local lines not covered by the JR Pass are required.

You can use the JR Pass from KiiKatsuura back to Kyoto.

The effectiveness of the JR Pass depends on how much you can cover within its validity period. You can compare the price of the JR Pass vs normal tickets here.
