Hi,

I will be buying a JR Pass for September. from your site.
I will be in Japan 14 days. I will be arriving in Tokyo then want to head to Kanazawa and around to Osaka, Kyoto and back to Tokyo.
Which pass will I buy ?
Which Trains between cities ?
Also, do I need to book a seat beforehand ? Or is it OK to book on the day before travel.

If you can please offer me some suggestions.

Thanks
Chris.

Hi Chris,

Could you tell me how many days you'd like to spend in each city?

This would help me find the best pass for you :)

On normal days, booking your seats on the day of travel works well. For weekend and national holidays, it is better to do so a couple of days in advance.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel.

My plans are not finalised but I'm thinking of - 2 nights in Tokyo, then 2 Kanazawa, 3 Osaka, 2 Kyoto and then back to Tokyo area for a few nights.
I can go in either direction - Tokyo-Kanazawa-Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo or the other way around depending on what works best.

Thanks,
Chris.

Hi Chris,

The route is basically a circle, so either direction will work. I think the best option would be a 7-day JR Pass, if you can make sure that you return to Tokyo on the last day your pass is valid.

Looks like a good trip! Kanazawa especially is a nice addition.

Kind regards,
Daniel
