How we best use the JR Pass?

We are planning on going to Japan in Aug 31-Sept 17 (18 days) with our 8 month old baby.

We would like to visit:
Tokyo
Kyoto
Hiroshima
Osaka, Nara
Mt Fuji (see only, not hike)

We will be arriving and leaving from Narita Airport.

If we get the 14 day JR pass, how can we make it work and save money since we will be actually staying 18 days.

Any other places you recommend visiting? How many days in each place?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

A 14 day JR Pass would be worth it, given that you cover travel between the cities you plan to visit and are back in Tokyo when the JR Pass expires. You could then simply buy local day passes or tickets for travel around Tokyo.

You may also like to add a stop-over at Himeji, coming from Hiroshima to Osaka. You can walk around and explore the castle for 2-3 hours. Then hop on the next train to Osaka, there are coin lockers available at Himeji station.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

While we have the JR Pass working, can we use it for local travels?

How many days should we stay at each place? Any recommended baby friendly hotels?

Tokyo
Kyoto
Hiroshima (stop at Himeji)
Osaka (day trip to Nara)
Mt Fuji/Hakone (see only, not hike)
Tokyo

Any other place we should add? I think we will have like 3 days extra.

Thank you again
