Hello! We will be travelling soon to Japan for 3 1/2 weeks. We will be in the Tokyo area from Day 1-11 visiting Tokyo and Disney with a possible day trip to Nagano and a possible overnight to Hakone. Then moving onwards to Kyoto for 4 nights with a side trip to Nara, then Hiroshima/Miyajima for one night
, ferry to Matsuyama and then hopefully doing the Iyonada Monogatari and Shikoku Mannaka Sennen Monogatari.

I am wondering if we will need the all Japan rail pass and if it is worth it to do 21 days. Also, how do we book the above two trains as I don’t see them listed on the navitime app. Are they allowed using that JR pass?

Thank you kindly for your assistance.

Hi there,

You don't need a JR Pass for travel in Tokyo, but I could see a 7-day or 14-day JR Pass being a great help for travel to Nagano, Hiroshima and other cities.

As for reserving. Iyonada Monogatari and Shikoku Mannaka Sennen Monogatari, these can be reserved as any other train. Please see: https://www.jrpass.com/blog/reserving-seats-boarding-the-bullet-train

Kind regards,
Daniel
