I'm going to Japan this march. I'll be staying at Tokyo for the first 3 days, and the next 3 days at Kyoto, and the last 3 days at Osaka. From Osaka, i will have to come back to Tokyo (narita) to catch my flight back.

  1. Do I need JR Pass for my trip?
  2. Or is it cheaper to buy Hokuriku Arch Pass (don't really know the difference compare to jr pass)?
  3. Is there a train that i can catch from Osaka to Narita?

Thanks,
Mel

Hi,
The question is not if you "need" the Pass - it's if you'll save money with one. You would come up just over breaking even on a 7 day pass with a Tokyo-Kansai round trip plus going to Narita. There is no non-stop train from Osaka to Narita. You'd need to get off the bullet train in Tokyo and then take the Narita Express.

The 7 day JR Pass is 29,110 yen and the Arch Pass is 24,000 yen if bought outside Japan. The Arch pass is ideal if you'd like to see Kanazawa along the way. But the big difference between the passes is that with the Arch Pass it will take you a couple hours longer each way to get from Tokyo to Kyoto and back.

Good luck.
