We are going to Sapporo for the Snow Festival and will be traveling to Hakodate, Otaru and Kushiro. We were considering buying a 1st class JR Pass instead of the Hokkaido JR Pass since 1st class seating is not an option with the Hokkaido JR Pass. Do you think the JR Green Pass is a better option since there will be lots of people in Hokkaido at that time?

Hi there,
I haven't seen many full trains in Hokkaido but traveling in Green Class is always nice! So it is not a bad idea to look at a JR Pass is you do want to travel Green Class. I did look at the routes you plan to travel and you can make good savings using a 7 day JR Pass, given that you make a return Sapporo to Hakodate and Sapporo to Kushiro.
