We are two people visiting Japan for the first time next May.
On May 6th we are planning Tokyo-Kamakura (back and forth)
On May 7th Tokyo-Hakone (does the JRP cover this trip?)
On May 9th Hakone -Kyoto
On May 12th Kyoto - Nara (back and forth)
On May 13th Kyoto - Naoshima (I understand th strain gets up to a place when we need to board a ferry: does the train goes there?)
On May 15th Naoshima (or the relevant JPR station) to Nagoya-ISE
On May 16th Ise to Tokyo.
Please advise if the above itinerary is feasible: do the trains travel on those itineraries we are planning and how does each tract take?
What would the cost be for 10 days for two people?
Thanks
Patrizia Ciompi
Help on the itinerary in Japan by JRP and relevant cost
Hi Patrizia Ciompi,
Looks like a fun trip. Naoshima is a really nice visit to make and I recommend renting a bicycle on the island to explore it.
When it comes to rail travel. I think it makes most sense to look at a 14 day JR Pass or normal rail tickets. A 7 day JR Pass would have been great if used to make the trip Hakone - Kyoto ... Ise - Tokyo. This would really help you make the best savings possible but right now this period is spread over 8 days. You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.
For travel to Naoshima, the JR Pass covers all train travel there. You can either travel to Uno or Takamatsu and take a ferry from those places. Uno is faster and the ferry costs less from there, Takamatsu is more scenic as you get to travel to Shikoku over the Big Seto bridge.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
