Hi,

I am planning to take 7 day JR pass for my Japan trip. I plan to use it for visiting Tokyo, Mt. Fuji and Kyoto.

I will be climbing Fuji and want to make most of my pass to cut costs. In that regards I have following questions:

  1. I will be staying in Itabashi Ku in Tokyo, from there how can I reach Fuji ( station 5) using as much JR trains as possible.
  2. After climbing I want to stay in place near Fuji and then leave to Kyoto from there next day. Which place will be most convenient for me coming from Fuji and leaving for Kyoto using JR pass ( I know there will be some connecting busses trains not covered in JR pass but I want ot spend as less as possible in those). Some places I read about are Hakone, Kawaguchiko and Yamanakako.

Thanks.

Hi there,

1.) Which 5th station do you intend travel? There are 4 trails going up to Fuji and each of these has its own 5th base station (note that this is not a train station).

2.) The way back also depends on your trail back, I recommend using the Gotemba route down. Use a bus from there to Gotemba station, then from there you can use local JR lines to any Shinkansen station, from where you get on a direct train to Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
