Hakone to Shin-Fuji Station

Hello,

I am planning a trip from Hakone to Shin-Fuji to get a view of Mt Fuji. Based on the maps, I will need to take a train that i will have to pay for to get to Odawara Station, the Tokaido Line will be the train that will take me to Shin-Fuji. I was wondering if my JR pass will allow me to use this train or not?

If there is another option that i am unaware of that will get me there or to another station to see Mt Fuji and use my JR Pass, i'd appreciate the info.

Thanks,

Robert

Hi Robert,

Yes, the JR Pass covers this. You can take any Kodama service between the two.

Gotemba is also a great alternative to visit with the JR Pass. It is a bit more inland and has shopping outlets too (if that is your thing).

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you very much for this information Daniel.

I wasn't sure because i read some information that had me worried:

The JAPAN RAIL PASS is not valid for any seats, reserved or non-reserved, on “NOZOMI” and “MIZUHO” trains on the Tokaido, SANYO and Kyushu Shinkansen lines. (The pass holders must take “HIKARI,” “SAKURA,” “KODAMA,” or “TSUBAME” trains.)

After viewing Mt Fuji i then plan on going to Kyoto which will utilize the Tokaido Sanyo Shinkansen. I wasn't sure if the JR Pass would apply for both leg of the trip:

Hi Robert,

It is better to use Hyperdia instead of Google maps for planning with the Japan Rail Pass.

Google maps does not give any options for the JR Pass, which makes it really difficult to plan with. The JR Pass can be used on the Tokaido Shinkansen, on any Hikari or Kodama service.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Good morning Daniel and thank you for this.

I was able to use this and it's a great tool that gives me real time departure and arrival for different parts of my trip while in Japan.
I will definitely use this to plan the remainder of my trip.

Thanks again,

Rob
