We are a group of 8 people and will purchase a 14 day pass in for march/April 2018
We are traveling between
Tokyo - Hiroshima - Himeji - Kinosaki Onsen - Kyoto - Nagoya- Magome - Nagoya- Kanazawa- then bus to Takayama - Tokyo

I understand there are quite a few Hikari bullet trains that do not use the green pass so we would just travel in ordinary. Is that correct?

I have looked on HyperDia but don't find it that easy to work out the schedule is there a better site?

During that cherry blossom time should we book all travel the night before? If so do I do that on line or at a station? If it is at a station can I do it on behalf of the group if I have their tickets?
Many thanks I do appreciate the website and will our tickets when I know which one would be best.

Hi there,

All Hikari trains have Green Class, I would be curious to know where you were informed otherwise.

You can make reservations at any ticket window for JR trains. Just bring all JR Passes and tell the staff where and when you wish to travel. Not everyone has to be there but you need to bring everyone's pass.

You could even reserve all trains the day that you arrive in Japan, in case you would like to do so and secure seating together. With bigger groups, it is recommended to do so more than 1 day in advance.
