Hello :)
I'm going to travel through Japan for the fist time in April.
I read a lot about the japan rail pass. My journey starts in Tokyo, after that i want to explore kyoto and osaka. At least i think i travel to Hiroshima. But i want to visit too smaller towns. I'm staying in japan for 4 weeks. Should I buy the japan rail pass? And when should i buy it?
Would be great if you can answer me!
Thank you
Best regards😊

Hi there,

It will depend on your final choice of places to visit but going to Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima will already add many miles to your trip. As a basis, I'd look at using a 14 day JR Pass and you could opt for a 21 day JR Pass if you are going to visit some of the smaller towns too. If you want to see some smaller towns, hit up Onomichi, Tomonoura, Beppu, Tsuwano or Izumo (just to name a few).

I can give you some more recommendations if you tell me what kind of things you are interested in.

The JR Pass needs to be activated within 3 months after purchase, so I'd buy it in March-April.

Kind regards,
Daniel
