Hi there, We are looking forward to using our JR pass very soon but I wonder if you can help me? We will be staying in Japan for 17 days and we will be using a 14 day pass. I was trying to figure out the best time when to activate the pass as we will be heading from Narita Airport to Tokyo and spending 6 days there when we first arrive, therefore I am not sure whether to activate the card on the first day as we arrive at 5-6pm evening. Does the pass expire at midnight or does it work on a 24 hr clock and expire at the same time of activation?
Hope this is not too confusing for you!
Thanks so much for your time!

Expiration of JR pass once activated

Hi there,
The JR Pass is counted in days and the first day is counted as full day, no matter what time you first get on the train. The pass will then expire on Midnight on the last day.
For instance, starting the JR Pass on a Monday, will mean that the last day is the following Sunday.
Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks for the information, and getting excited for our trip
