Hi,

I will be making a solo trip to Japan, mainly to look Japanese kilns and potteries. Which cities are the best and how do I travel to these places using JR Pass. Time is not a huge factor, and I plan to stay at little towns along the way just to get to know Japan a little better.

I also hope to spend some good time in Kyoto. Would appreciate much for any tips or suggestions a to how best travel round Japan using the rail system. I don't speak or read Japanese.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I must admit that I don't know that much about Japanese pottery and there much better guides our there on this. That said, Kyoto is a great place to start. There is a district at the bottom of Kiyomizu-dera temple that sells and crafts local pottery.

You could also look at a trip like this and recreate it with the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
