Hello, Our family of 6 will be in Tokyo for 4 days in October. We plan to travel to Kyoto for a day trip and another day we plan to travel to Niigata. We would need to use the bullet train for these 2 destinations. If we purchase the Japan Rail Pass, will we be able to use it to travel to these places? Is there additional cost for using the bullet train versus the regular train?

Hi there,

Yes, you can go to both Kyoto and Niigata using the Japan Rail Pass - you'd be making good savings too. The trip to Niigata is also cool if you're a bit into trains, as you can ride the Double Decker Shinkansen between Tokyo - Niigata for free using the JR Pass and if you're not into trains, it is still cool as you're have some great views along the way.

Kind regards,
Daniel
