Hi - so excited for my trip in June!

My itinerary is tentatively....
Fly in Tokyo - 4 nights
hakone- 2 nights
Kyoto - 3 nights
Osaka - 3 nights fly out Osaka

My original thought was a 7 day rail pass. However, I think I was seeing a post that said it is likley cheaper just to buy the single fares? If it is only about cheaper, but more convenient with rail pass than that would be my preferred option.

If it is cheaper to buy single fares, Do they need to be purchased far in advance or just day of?

Hi Claus Frederiksen,

For your trip it would be cheaper to buy tickets as you travel. It's really not that many trips and tickets would only cost about 60% of the price of a 7-day JR Pass on this trip. Tickets can either be bought beforehand or later on. There's an App called Smart-Ex that you can use the buy tickets on the Tokaido Shinkansen.
