Hi, I am travelling with my 13 years old son to Japan from Uruguay to watch 2 matches of the World Rugby Cup.
These 2 matches will be held in Oita on October 2nd and October 5th and I will stay in a hotel in Beppu.
In the meantime we would like to visit Tokyo and stay there on October 3rd and 4th.
Is it convenient for me to buy a Japan Rail Pass? May I use it to travel from Beppu to Tokyo these 2 days and then into the city of Tokyo? If so, may I buy or reserve the tickets on line?
If not, may I buy on line just the tickets from Beppu to Tokyo.
I remain waiting for your prompt response.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Fernando,

You can travel from Beppu to Tokyo using the Shinkansen but it is about 9 hours by train 1 way. You'd spend more time on the train than sightseeing. Instead of Tokyo, I would visit some cities closer. For instance, Fukuoka, Kamamoto, Kagoshima or Hiroshima. You can reach all these cities using the JR Pass, same for Tokyo if you do want to go.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
