Hi there,

I will be travelling to Japan in February and need help on deciding whether the 7 or 14 day JR pass (if any) would be beneficial for me.

Day 1-3: Osaka
Day 4: Kyoto (day trip), return back to osaka that night
Day 5: Sapporo
Day 6: Otaru
Day 7-8: Sapporo
Day 9-10: Tokyo
Day 11: Hakone
Day 12-14: Tokyo (disneyland/sea)

Appreciate your help!

Justin

Hi Justin,

If you go by train to Sapporo, then YES! A JR Pass will give you excellent value here. A normal one way ticket Tokyo - Sapporo is the same price as a 7-day JR Pass. Imagine doing Osaka - Sapporo and then Sapporo - Tokyo + any local travel you may do, such as to Otaru.

Hope this helps!
Daniel

Thanks Daniel for your quick reply,

I've already purchased plane tickets to Sapporo (from Osaka) and Toyko (from Sapporo) as I am time sensitive.

Do you think it's still worth it to purchase a JR pass for the local travel?

Hi again,

In that case, you may be better off buying normal tickets.

You can get an idea of the ticket costs involved:

Kind regards,
Daniel
