Hello :)

My husband and I will be arriving in Tokyo (Narita Airport) on 1 Oct and departing from Tokyo (Narita Airport) on 11 Oct.

1 night in Hakone (1 Oct)
3 nights in Kyoto (2-4 Oct)
6 nights in Tokyo (5-10 Oct)

What kind of pass do we need?

Thank you for your help!
Zoe

Hi Zoe,

I recommend using the 7-day JR Pass for travel to Hakone, Kyoto and back to Tokyo. This is the period that costs the most by far and at the same time, local travel in Tokyo does not cost much. You could even add a day trip while your JR Pass is still valid from Tokyo.

Think of places like Kamakura, Takao-san or Nikko.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel-san for your reply!

Appreciate your recommendation — to add a day trip while my JR pass is still valid. That is very smart!

So for travelling within Tokyo, is getting a prepaid card like Suica or Pasmo the best way to pay for train and subway travel in Tokyo?

Do you think we need to get the Tokyo metro pass 72 hours?
