Hey there,
I’m spending 10 days in Tokyo. During this time I’m leaving for 2 nights to visit Mashiko. What would be the cheapest option for a rail pass? Thankyou

Hi there,

A rail pass won't particularly benefit you as the number of train journeys you'll be making will be small. I would encourage you to look into getting something like a Suica card to use for the Tokyo Metro lines, since you'll be staying there for a while.

More info on purchasing a Suica card or choosing a different prepaid rail card can be found here

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response! Would be great to get some advice on my trip overall..I am actually going to be in Japan for 3 weeks in total and having trouble deciding what the cheapest option is for travel. I’ve heard mixed reviews on whether the rail pass is worth it or not. This is my whole itinerary:
10 days in Tokyo including 2 nights in Mashiko
2 nights in Kyoto
5 nights mount Ikoma-Nara
2 nights omiimatsu, Shiga
1 night ogotoonsen Shiga
2 nights naoshima Kagawa pref.
3 nights Tokyo then to Hanaeda airport
Thanks so much!
