Hi there,

I am travelling to Japan between 20DEC16 to 30DEC16 and have a few questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the 25th of Dec(which just so happens to be christmas), we will be making our way from Tokyo to Osaka. From what I've looked up, I will be taking the bullet train from either Shinagawa or Shin-Yokohoma station using the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen and stopping at Shin-Osaka station.(If any of my research is wrong please do highlight, it would be appreciated) My question is:

  1. Can i buy the train ticket earlier, when i touch down at Narita airport for example?
  2. Or do i only purchase it at the station directly?
  3. If I'm not wrong, I'm unable to purchase it online right now unless i read Japanese?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

Hi Ibrahim,

1 and 2.) You can buy tickets the moment that you arrive at Narita Airport and have made your way to the JR East ticket office. The station is within the airport.

3.) That is correct. Only if you speak Japanese, then you can use: this website. I know of some people of managed to do it using Google translate. I can not help you with this, other than pointing you in the right direction. Trains rarely sell out and most of the time it is fine to book tickets for the train on the day of travel. However around new year, I would reserve tickets 2-4 days in advance to be secure of seating.

Hi again,

Christmas is not a national holiday in Japan and generally not that busy. New year is the biggest culprit.
