questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

hakata to yufuin

Hakata to Yufuin

Hi, is the JR pass eligible for "LTD.EXP YUFU 3" from Hakata to Yufuin. Furthermore, where can i take Yufuin no Mori train to Yufuin from Hakata and is JR pass eligible for this train. Thanks

Hi there,

Yes the JR Pass covers this train. You can take the train directly from Hakata (Fukuoka) Station.

Hope this helps,

If you're in Fukuoka City then Hakata Station is your only choice. You can see the train timetable here. A slightly faster way would be to take the bullet train to Kurume and catch your train there.

Don't skimp on seeing Fukuoka though - there are many charming sights. The Nanzoin Temple is stunning. The Rakusuien and Yusentei Gardens are both beautiful. Odo Park has gorgeous ocean sunsets, there is also great shopping, and the tonkotsu ramen is quite famous.

Thanks Daniel-san

Hi Toraneko

We are planing to stay in Hakata 5 days 4 nights and stay in Yufuin 2 days 1 night to experience the onsen hotel. There is some issue on communication for Yufuin's hotel (that we intended to stay) the staff there don't speak english at all and we can't find the official email (direct to the hotel). The hotel we want to book is ほたるの宿仙洞. Any other recommendation or suggestion?

There is a website with that name on There is a phone number at 81-977-84-4294 but perhaps there is nobody there who can effectively communicate in English. There is an e-mail form you can use though at: The first box field is for your name, the 2nd for your phone number, the 3rd for e-mail address, and the larger 4th one is for your message.
From the main page you can book online There are things like google translators you can use for them.

Two days is really more than enough for Yufuin. You might go spend some time at Beppu, famous for its hot springs, but its Hells Tour, plus the nearby Takasakiyama monkey park/aquarium are all terrific.
