Hi,

I have 2 train journeys in April 2019. From hakone to Kyoto and 2nd is from Kyoto to Tokyo.
Rest of the time I will be travelling inside Tokyo..will it be better to take a 7 day JR standard pass or take individual pass?
My agent is saying cost is same for both options and the individual tickets will come with a reservation while JR pass I will need to reserve and pay extra..please suggest

Hi there,

Seat reservations are free with the JR Pass, you would not have to pay extra for any JR lines. Including Odawara station (Hakone) - Kyoto and Kyoto - Tokyo.

In terms of cost savings, you could save a bit of money if you'd use the JR Pass for these two routes and travel to/from the airport in Tokyo. Add travel on local JR lines in Tokyo as well, and you've got a pretty good deal.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
