Hello,

During october and november we will visit Japan with two small groups. Could you help me with the planning of our railway and other passes? We would travel maximally by train.

Group 1 (5 persons) - I think we need to take a JR pass 14 days, but as of when? What to take on the other days.
1 25-okt-26 Tokio (Narita Airport) to Tokio Centre
2 26-okt-26 Tokio visit
3 27-okt-26 Tokyo - Nikko
4 28-okt-26 Nikko - Toyama - Kanazawa
5 29-okt-26 Kanazawa visit
6 30-okt-26 Kanazawa - Takayama
7 31-okt-26 Takayama visit
8 1-nov-26 Takayama - Nagoya - Kyoto
9 2-nov-26 Kyoto visit
10 3-nov-26 Kyoto visit
11 4-nov-26 Kyoto - Nara - Kyoto
12 5-nov-26 Kyoto - Kinosaki Onsen
13 6-nov-26 Kinosaki - Himeji - Takamatsu
14 7-nov-26 Takamatsu - Naoshima
15 8-nov-26 Naoshima - Takamatsu - Tokushima
16 9-nov-26 Tokushima pilgrim trail by foot
17 10-nov-26 Tokushima - Hirosjima
18 11-nov-26 Hiroshima
19 12-nov-26 Hirohima to Tokyo by plane, then with a flight to Munich (Germany)

Group 2 (4 persons) - a JR pass of 7 days? As of when?
1 30-okt-26 Tokio (Haneda Airport) to Tokio Centre
2 31-okt-26 Tokio visit centre
3 1-nov-26 Tokio - Kyoto
4 2-nov-26 Kyoto visit (as of then: same programm as group 1)
5 3-nov-26 Kyoto visit
6 4-nov-26 Kyoto - Nara - Kyoto
7 5-nov-26 Kyoto - Kinosaki Onsen
8 6-nov-26 Kinosaki - Himeji - Takamatsu
9 7-nov-26 Takamatsu - Naoshima
10 8-nov-26 Naoshima - Takamatsu - Tokushima
11 9-nov-26 Tokushima pilgrim trail by foot
12 10-nov-26 Tokushima - Hirosjima
13 11-nov-26 Hiroshima visit
14 12-nov-26 Hirohima to Tokyo by plane, then with a flight to Munich (Germany)

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi Filip,

Group 1 (5 persons)
Given the complexity of your itinerary, a 21-day Nationwide JR Pass is the most convenient choice for your groups. The pass offers a seamless experience that perfectly matches your desire to "travel maximally by train" without the hassle of purchasing individual tickets for each leg of your journey.

Furthermore, this actually works out to be slightly cheaper than a combination of a 14-day pass and individual tickets, as your travel in the first week involves several expensive long-distance journeys.

Group 2 (4 persons)
For this group travel, a 7-day Nationwide JR Pass is an excellent choice for the second half of your trip.

I recommend activating the 7-day pass on 5 November (Day 7) for your journey to Kinosaki Onsen. This will cover all your group's travel through Kinosaki Onsen, Shikoku, and onwards to Hiroshima.

By paying for the Tokyo-Kyoto leg separately and using the pass for the final 7 days, you ensure the group enjoys the simplicity and convenience of the JR Pass for the remainder of the trip.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
