Hello, could you please review the below to confirm it is logical?
6 March 2019 - Arriving in Tokyo
we stay in Tokyo and around for 6 days

12 March - Tokyo to Mt Fuji for 2 days

14 March - Mt Fuji to Kyoto for 7 days
Is it a good choice, is it easy to take the train from MtFuji and be in Kyoto easily ?

21 March - Tanabe for 3 days

We still have to find a place for 4 days going back to Tokyo for the 28 March

  • Should we buy a JRPass ?
  • Is it possible to buy in JAPAN or do we have to buy it before entering ? We buy a 22 days pass or just leaving Tokyo so it's all the during of the stay ? Or only on the 12 leaving for Mt Fuji March to come back in Tokyo then a 16 days pass ?
  • I saw there is National Pass and regional Pass is it possible to buy a regional pass while we are near Tokyo and a National Pass to go in Kyoto and back ?
  • Can we use it to go in Mt Fuji ?

Thank you very much !

Hi there,

To start with Fuji, from where around Fuji will you be traveling? For instance, it is quite easy to get from the Hakone Area to Kyoto but it is pretty hard to do so from around Kawaguchiko.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary. In general, it is best to use a JR Pass for the longer routes.

For Fuji, I recommend reading:

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hello
Thank you very much

We will be staying in Tokyo for 6 days (6 to 12 March)
From Tokyo we might go to Shinjuku, Ueno, Tsukiji, Bay of Tokyo ...

and then we go to Mt Fuji for 2 nights (12 and 13 March)

and then to Kyoto for 7 nights (14 to 21 March)
During our stay to Kyoto are we able to go to Nara by exemple ?
Bambou forest, Gardens of Ryan-ji, Kamo-Jinja

and then to Tanabe for 4 nights (21 to 24 March)
Kumano dodo,

we have to be back near Narita on the 28 of March

would it be better to go to Mt Fuji at the end ?
Is it Logical to do that itinerary ?

Thank you very much :-)

Hi again :)

Before going into detail, I recommend reading up on travel around Fuji and the Kumano-kodo, both are actually quite a large area's and it's important to understand what station you will be using to access them, or where for instance you will book an accommodation.

In Tokyo: You can also use the JR Pass on local JR lines to visit stations in Tokyo like Shinjuku, Ueno, Tsukiji (close to Tokyo station) and many more. Do note that Odaiba does not have a JR station.

From Kyoto, you can also go to Nara and use local JR lines in the city, note that these are limited to the west and south of the city but places like Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama (bamboo forrest) and Uji are all covered.

For Fuji, again it depends where you want to go but it looks too complicated, do it as a day trip from Tokyo. For instance, Kawaguchiko is not too far out and you could have a nice day trip there.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you

Taking the train from Narita to Tokyo and make day excursion around do we need the JRPass national or which one should we buy ?

Then going to Kyoto we activate the national one for the duration while we are in an other zone. Then we can come back to Tokyo and use again a regional one ??

Is it a more realist Itineray :
Tokyo 6 days
Kyoto 7 days
Tanabe - 4 days - but come back to sleep in Tanabe - going to Takijiri-Oji buy bus, and an other day to Hayakama Taisha from Kiji Katsuura
we are thinking of going back to Tanabe for the nights. But should we sleep neerer, like in Katsuura ?

Back to Tokyo we could go to Mt Fuji by the 5 lakes, Mishima ... by the Chuo Expressway (can we use the JRPass) making it a one day excursion or a sleep near Mt Fuji

Is a 14 days National JRPass would be good while we are in an other zone ?
Tokyo with a regional JRPass we can go where ?

Thank you very much !!
