hi my wife and I are planning on traveling from Tokyo to Osaka and staying there for 3 nights. While we are there we plan on visiting Kyoto on 2 of those days (day trip to and from Osaka to Kyoto). When we are back in Tokyo we are thinking of going to Nikko or Hakone. Does it make sense to buy a JR Rail pass for these trips, compared to buying normal tickets?
Travel to Osaka, Kyoto from Tokyo
Hello there,
This is a bit of a classic itinerary and the JR Pass was made for a trip exactly like this one.
The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka on the Shinkansen, with the JR Pass you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price. In other words, any additional travel, such as to Nikko or Kyoto is complementary.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
