Hi,
We are going on a 12 day trip with the following itinerary:
Day 1 Kyoto
Day 2 Nara
Day 3 Takayama
Day 4 trip to Shirakawa go and back to Takayama same day
Day 5 trip to Kamikochi and back to Takayama same day
Day 6 and 7 Hakone
Day 8 to 11 Tokyo
Would the JR pass be useful especially as Takayama-Shirakawa, KAmikochi do not seem to be connected via JR

I think it would make more sense to buy normal tickets for your trip. As your travel is indeed often not on JR lines and overall travel cost is relatively low.
