Hi, I am arriving in Tokyo and planning to go to Kyoto, then Osaka, back to Kyoto and then Tokyo, in a 7 week range, should I take the JR pass or buy these separately?

Regards,

Ricky

Hi Ricky,

I recommend using a 7 day Japan Rail Pass if you can use it to cover the return Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka with it within the 7 day validity period of the JR Pass. In terms of savings, the JR Pass costs about the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price and any additional travel is basically what you will save. This can be just local JR lines within Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. The Narita Express to the airport or even a day trip outside of the city.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
