Hi,

I'm planning to travel the above route next year. When reading the rules for the JR rail pass am I correct in understanding I can use any bullet train except the Nozomi/Mizuho/Hayabusa trains and am I able to use the bullet train between Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo?

One last question, when are the peak commuter times? I'm currently planning which trains to take in the morning on HyperDia.com but don't want to be caught in rush hour traffic.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

Hi there,

You can use ANY bullet train service in Japan with the exception of the Nozomi and Mizuho. You can use the Hayabusa, bullet trains between Osaka Kyoto and Tokyo can be used on the Hikari Service.

Most commuters will travel between 6.30-9:00. Note that Shinkansen are quite expensive and most people only use local trains for commuting.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
